All new Federal Perkins Loan borrowers must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) for the Perkins Loan Program. You will sign your Perkins MPN electronically through a third-party vendor: ECSI. Once you accept your Federal Perkins loan via the Student Administration System, you will receive emails from both UConn and ECSI, directing you to the electronic MPN starting in May.
You will need the following items to complete and electronically sign the MPN:
- Your Federal Student Aid ID. This is the same ID you use to sign the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Visit the Department of Education’s FSA ID site for more information.
- Your full legal name, social security number, and date of birth.
- You will also need to provide names, addresses, and telephone numbers for your next of kin and two references. Reference information is used by ECSI if they are unable to locate you after you graduate.
- The entire MPN process should take you less than 30 minutes to complete.
This process is separate from and in addition to the Federal Direct Stafford Loan MPN process.
Questions about completion of the MPN should be directed to ECSI at 888-549-3274 or via email to webservice@ecsi.net.
