Information Regarding Financial Aid Packages

Students in the following categories should expect their financial aid award packages to be available via the Student Administration System on the dates provided:

2017-2018 Financial Aid Packages

  • Incoming Undergraduate students: The financial aid awarding process began on March 13, 2017.  A notification has been sent to the student’s personal email address, as well as to their campus email address if available, to view their financial aid award package.
  • Continuing Undergraduate and Graduate students:  The financial aid awarding process began on April 3, 2017.  A notification has been sent to the student’s university email address.
  • New Graduate students:  The financial aid awarding process began on April 3, 2017.  A notification has been sent to the student’s personal email address.

FAFSA Reminder for the 2017/2018 Academic Year

The 2017-2018 FAFSA has been available since October 1, 2016.  Utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to import 2015 tax figures directly from the IRS for maximum accuracy and for faster processing.  Award notifications will be sent via email beginning late April 2017.

UConn’s On Time Deadline dates are as follows:

  • March 1, 2017 for:
    • Continuing Undergraduate and Graduate Students
    • New Freshman
    • New Transfer Students
    • New School of Social Work Students
  • May 1, 2017 for:
    • New Graduate Students (not attending School of Social Work)

When should I complete and submit the FAFSA on the web?

  • You should complete the FAFSA by the deadlines listed above. Failure to complete the FAFSA by these deadlines will result in a loss and/or reduction of financial aid.
  • Financial aid is awarded annually, and you must reapply each year. The amount you receive each year can vary according to your financial need and availability of funds.

What can I do if I missed the On Time FAFSA deadline?

Students who have not met UConn’s FAFSA deadline may petition the university for reconsideration of their eligibility for most forms of financial aid by submitting the On-Time FAFSA Deadline Appeal Form.  Please visit the Appeals Page / On Time Status section for detailed information.

Early FAFSA for the Fall 2017/Spring 2018 now available

File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) starting October 1st at http://fafsa.ed.gov.

Utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to import 2015 tax figures directly from the IRS for maximum accuracy and for faster processing.

Meet UConn’s priority deadline of March 1, 2017, to allow for maximum aid consideration.

Use UConn’s Federal School Code, 001417, for all campuses.

Award notifications will be sent via email beginning late April 2017.

2016-2017 Federal Direct Loan Programs Origination Fee Increase

September 20, 2016

Effective October 1, 2016, the U.S. Department of Education will increase the origination fees on Federal Direct Loan Programs. Federal Direct Stafford Loans (Subsidized/Unsubsidized) will be assessed a 1.069% origination fee while Federal Direct PLUS Loans will be assessed a 4.276% origination fee. Loan applications not yet finalized (e.g. funds wired to the University) will be subject to the slightly higher origination fees as of October 1, 2016.

Important Information for Students Selected for Verification

June 1, 2015

The IRS has temporarily shut down the Get Transcript application, used to obtain tax return transcripts, after determining that third parties had gained unauthorized access. The online application will remain disabled until the IRS makes modifications and further strengthens security.

In the meantime, tax return transcripts may still be requested by mail. Additional information is available at http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript.

  • Incoming Undergraduate students: The financial aid awarding process began on March 19, 2015
  • Continuing Undergraduate students and all Graduate students: late April 2015

Summer 2015 Financial Aid Packages

  • Students enrolled in a summer 2015 session and who have applied for summer financial aid: early-April 2015
  • The summer application became available on February 23, 2015

FAFSA Reminder for the 2015/2016 Academic Year

UConn Federal School Code is 001417 for all campuses.    

You can file your FAFSA using estimated income data (e.g., based on the last pay stub of the year and W-2 and 1099 statements).

You can update your FAFSA by using the IRS data retrieval tool once you have filed your return.  The IRS Data Retrieval tool allows your filed information to be prefilled into the FAFSA application.

FAFSA.gov will provide you instructions on how to file the FAFSA.  The FAFSA for the 2015-2016 academic year is available beginning January 1, 2015.
